APA Group announced a final investment decision for the 72 MW Sybella Creek Solar Farm and a 52 MW / 104 MWh battery in Mount Isa, Queensland. The $259 million project is supported by an Energy Supply Agreement with Evolution Mining’s Ernest Henry operation.

The structure shows how a hybrid asset can be bought around a defined customer need rather than a generic capacity target. Solar yield, battery firming, gas-backed supply, network limits and the offtake’s performance obligations must be modelled together.

Suppliers should clarify AC and DC boundaries, dispatch priority, round-trip efficiency, degradation, outage coordination and metering. Construction is expected from late 2026, so delivery schedules and commissioning evidence need to match the offtake start.
