China plans to impose consumption tax on lithium-ion batteries from September 1, 2026, ending the category's 11-year exemption. Reported exemptions through the end of 2028 include sodium-ion, solid-state and fuel cells, plus specified advanced PV cells subject to compliance conditions.

This is a sourcing watchpoint, not a universal price forecast. Export terms, product classification, domestic content, qualifying standards and each factory's product mix can determine whether a quoted cost is exposed to the change.
