Hawaiian Electric filed a request with Hawaii's Public Utilities Commission for a 20-year fixed-price PPA with Pulehu Solar. The proposed Maui project would add 20 MW of solar and 80 MWh of battery storage and is expected to serve the equivalent of nearly 10,000 households annually.
The contract would use Hawaiian Electric's Renewable Dispatchable Generation structure, allowing the utility to direct when energy is stored and dispatched. The project remains subject to regulatory review, permitting, financing and construction.
For buyers, the key question is how dispatch obligations flow into battery guarantees, wildfire protection, substation layout, community conditions and service response. SolarXport compares solar-plus-storage equipment, BESS options and a project request.
