Spain proposes an 80% renewable electricity rule for data centres

PV Tech reports that Spain has proposed rules for data centres above 1 MW, including a requirement for at least 80% of hourly electricity consumption to come from renewable sources. The proposal remains under consultation.

For energy buyers, hourly matching is a different design problem from annual renewable claims. On-site PV, PPAs, storage, grid capacity, backup generation, metering and load profiles must be modelled as one compliance and reliability package.

Before committing equipment, confirm the final rule, matching interval, additionality test and evidence format. Then specify usable storage, firm power, curtailment treatment and data ownership in the RFQ.
