The Energy Security Corporation reports that PLUS Grid Storage has started construction of the 200 MW / 400 MWh Steel River East BESS at Newcastle’s Steel River Industrial Estate. The project is expected to enter operation in late 2027 and is supported by the corporation’s investment in the platform.
A construction milestone is a stronger procurement signal than an early-stage concept, but it does not remove delivery risk. The 132 kV connection, civil works, battery safety systems, controls and commissioning sequence still need clear ownership.
Buyers should ask for a site-specific fire strategy, equipment delivery plan, protection and control studies, factory and site acceptance tests, spare-parts coverage and measurable availability guarantees. These records are essential when storage moves from approval into operation.
