Vattenfall has taken the final investment decision for a battery storage facility at the former Brunsbüttel nuclear site in Germany. The project is planned at 254 MW with around 1,000 MWh of storage and is expected to connect to the 50Hertz transmission grid by the end of 2028.

For utility buyers, the announcement makes the delivery chain explicit: site reuse, transmission connection, commissioning sequence and long-term operating support are part of the asset value. A four-hour nameplate does not by itself define usable energy, availability or dispatch performance.
